Rob LaScala of LaScala Restaurant Group is bringing a second location of the famous LBI eatery to Marlton — and this 1's got more space and a beer garden.
Initially, Marlton resident LaScala had plans to open a LaScala'south Eating house and a Mexican restaurant on the site of the former Kmart in Marlton's Renaissance Square.
But with the success of LaScala's Fire at The Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton, construction on the site and the feasibility of opening one big restaurant instead of two during the pandemic, he switched gears less than a year ago and decided to open up a 2nd The Chicken or The Egg (also known every bit "Chegg" by fans) with a liquor license on the site, which was approved in May past the Evesham Township planning lath.

"What better brand to do information technology than The Chicken or The Egg, because it was so successful in Beach Oasis," LaScala explained. "I thought I live in Marlton, and I just experience like it'south a groovy fit for Marlton."
Known for its hearty breakfast and wings, The Craven or the Egg first opened its doors in 1991 in a modest, luncheonette next door to Beach Haven's landmark Pecker's Barber Shop. The idea was hatched by brothers Mark and Craig Cohen, who moved the restaurant beyond the street in 1993 when it outgrew its vanquish.
"The Chegg represents a intermission from the real world," Mark shared. "We represent summer, LBI, vacation and but plain fun. It's like that feeling when you go over the bridge and all your tensions become away — I'd like to think that nosotros correspond that feeling. People from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and really all over love coming to LBI and they dear hitting the Chegg because we are LBI."
Chegg's loyal patronage goes beyond the food — during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the flooded restaurant received back up assuasive them to open support in the spring after rebuilding during the winter.
"While Sandy was devastating to us in many ways, information technology was also quite uplifting," Mark recalled. "I've never seen a community come together and support local business as people did after Sandy ... People waited for hours for tables and takeout and were happy to do it. I remember breaking downwards at the end of the night thinking how lucky we were to live and piece of work in a identify with so much beloved and back up."
LaScala, who too owns LaScala's Fire, LaScala's Birra and LaScala's Pronto and other restaurants, bought the concept and building "due to its uniqueness" a little over iv years agone when the Cohen brothers were looking to retire, he said.
